It is generally assumed that when it comes to porn - the viewer understands, visually, what they are consuming. However, there is a lack of public discourse on the history of pornography, its evolution and the diverse subgenres that have emerged through the ages. Patrick Catuz, author, film expert and founder of Arthouse Vienna, gives his view on contemporary porn studies and presents a plethora of perspectives on porn and how it can be perceived, answering questions such as: How did porn develop? What is the distinction between different subgenres? What is feminist and ethical porn? How can one analyse a porn film? Lastly, why should you even care about porn?
